Last Tuesday night, as I prepared to start painting, I turned on the NPR station and heard some really sad news. My favorite painter, and the author of my favorite quote, Robert Rauschenberg had passed away the night before. He was 82 and continued to create work until his end. If you know my work, you know how much this man has inspired me. I began studying him when I was in college when a professor of mine mentioned that my work resembled his. I guess I had some hope that some day I would meet him. Hearing about his death was a very strange feeling and to begin painting that evening definitely had a different vibe than usual. It’s incredible to know such an amazing legend lived in my lifetime.
